Deep thoughts. Take a look at my blog articles on Quora, Daniel. You could be sharing and engaging many more by posting to Quora. You will find far more interaction when you do that, even than you do on what I consider to be a very solid blog - yours.

Sorry for the spelling errors ... the iphone keyboard is wayyyy too small.

That said, glad you liked it. I've been revisiting Terkel over the past few weeks - a uniquely American voice, a voice of inclusion regardless of color, creed and economic class. A man who built his career on listening and seeking to understand.

We need more people like Studs.

Sorry for your family's loss, of course.

I love your writing style. I crave it,in fact - I am too overt in my sarcasm. And hate that.

My experience at a Japanese funeral - my father-in-law's - this was by far the deepest cultural experience I have had, for my 17+ years in Japan.

Very nicely written. So sorry to read about your little girl. (Kind of wild to find John's comment here! He said my blog is more than a blog, too! But I do agree with him!) I read a few more of your essays. I'll keep on reading. Hope you keep on writing.

the bonito does not look like a fish. My hubby and son are debating. I always believed it to be a fish, but it doesn't look like it, looks more like wood in the pictures. Yet you can google bonito, and they come up with different pictures of fish. I am confused.
